Check out a selection of the newest and coolest products introduced at Winter CHA!

New Products at CHA

Hot Off the Press of Canby, Oregon (503/266-9102) introduced a wide variety of new products at the 2007 CHA Winter Trade Show. First off are Finished in a Flash™ page kits, which are aimed at increasing convenience for scrapbookers. Eight themes are available, with My Boy, My Girl, My Dog and At the Beach being the most popular. Also available are 14 new styles of Brad Buddies™, bringing the total number to 29 designs; best sellers at the show were Romance, Easter and Dance. The new Instant Card Art is aimed at the scrapbookers who also make cards. HOTP has also introduced a line of masculine papers and embellishments; new shaped brads that include Easter Egg Brads, Heart Brads and Music Note Brads; and a Pretty Creative Pack and Ribbons for card makers.

A Scrapbooking Journey Abroad

Dove of the East (888/219-0382) launched more than 50 new products at this year's Winter CHA, including India Journey, a series of 12" x 12" acid-free papers, embellishments, ribbons and full-color Foreign Accent rub-ons that include such motifs as peacocks, tigers and jeweled palaces. India Journey, Russia Journey and China Journey 8" x 8" rub-on sheets in full color are also new for the show, as is the Japan Journey Teaser, whch incudes embellishments, ribbons and ribbon sliders. Other new products include the Russia Journey treasure box (which contains two brocade ribbons, a rectangular crystal ribbon slider, a crystal heart ribbon slider, the innovative new oval crystal frame with brads and two Russian filigree metal embellishments) and the Beach Baby Love charm series in embroidered organza bags with matching stickers.

Stained Glass Stamps

DRS Designs of Bethel, Connecticut (888/792-3740) has created a new line of Stained Glass Stamps. With these backgrounds, stampers can use other stamps to create a stained glass effect. Stamp one of the four new designs in pigment ink and, while the ink is still wet, stamp the second image right on top using the same ink. Emboss and color for a stamped image that looks like a stained glass window. Preprinted or brayered paper can also be used, with the images stamped on top. Step-by-step instructions and color samples are available at the company website (www.drs-designs.com).

Embossing Powders for Distressing,
Retailer Contest

Ranger of Tinton Falls, New Jersey (800/244-2211) has rounded out its Distress™ Embossing Powders to include all of the colors from the coordinating Distress Ink palette. Now, a total of 24 retro colors complete the line of vintage-style Distress Powders and Inks. Specifically designed to match the Distress Ink colors, these embossing powders have a special property that creates a textured look of days gone by. After embossing, simply rub off the special release crystals. The effect is vintage with a worn and weathered texture. The following colors are available in 1 oz. jars: Aged Mahogany, Broken China, Brushed Corduroy, Dried Marigold, Dusty Concord, Faded Jeans, Frayed Burlap, Pine Needles, Scattered Straw, Shabby Shutters, Spiced Marmalade and Worn Lipstick. A rack with header is also available.

Ranger is also holding a contest for retailers: for every sales order of $500 between January 27, 2007 and June 30, 2007, your store will be entered into a drawing, with winners to be announced at the Summer CHA Show, July 20-22, 2007. Two stores will be announced and will win one of the following weekends: classes with Ranger designer Suze Weinberg at your store, or classes with Ranger designer Tim Holtz at your store. The more orders submitted, the more chances to win. Contact Ranger for more details.

Special Pens and Stickers

Sakura of America of Hayward, California (800/776-6257) has introduced Sticklers™ Kits. These kits combine a sheet of metallic-colored die-cut outline stickers (Sticklers) with three coordinating special craft pens (either Glaze™ or Soufflé™) that offer a unique way to personalize cards, wedding stationery, notebooks, crafts, personal electronics and more. Glaze pens feature glossy transparent colors on lighter surfaces and when used on clear plastic sheets give a "stained glass" effect. Soufflé pens offer matte opaque pastel colors and work well on darker surfaces such as cell phones and PDAs. Both 3-D pens adhere to a wide range of surfaces, yet can be removed by carefully peeling off the sticker and colors. Glaze is also now available in individual colors in two-pack pouches, and two new Sticklers designs have been introduced for the show. Another new writing instrument from Sakura is Gelly Roll Gold Shadow, a gel ink roller pen that creates a unique effect—a gold metallic stroke outlined by another contrasting color as you write. Five outline colors are available: pink, lavender, green, blue and black. The pens are also available in a 72-piece counter display.

Embossing Powders and Pliable Adhesives

Sparkle N Sprinkle of Ruskin, Florida (888/901-9173) is delighted to introduce its new assortment of Cosmic Dreams embossing powders. These 26 Cosmic Dreams powders were specially formulated to complement the Stardream collection of cardstock and text-weight papers that are available. Since the collection consists of both metallic and pearlescent papers, the company mixed its Cosmic Dreams embossing powders to capture these two qualities.

The company is also introducing three sensational water-soluble, pliable adhesives to satisfy stamping and crafting needs. Sparkle N Sprinkle Dimensional Glue fulfills two purposes: to bond glitter, fibers, beads and other embellishments to cards, acrylics, scrapbook pages, leather, tile, wood, cork, metal, etc.; and to add a heightening effect. In other words, it does not spread out when placed on the surface, resulting in an eye-catching 3-D appearance. The second, Sparkle N Sprinkle Brushable Glue, can be applied with any paintbrush straight from the bottle or a nonporous palette in order to enhance any part of all of a creation with glitter, fibers etc. The effect desired will determine the size and type of brush used and how heavily it is loaded with glue. It is white to make it possible to see precisely where the material being glued will go, but it dries absolutely clear. Lastly, Sparkle N Sprinkle Ornament Glue possesses the right formula and consistency for swirling inside glass or plastic ornaments and adding glitter and/or mica powders to create "one-of-a-kind" ornaments. All adhesives are non-toxic and acid-free.

Do-It-Yourself Monogram

JustRite of Onarga, Illinois (800/545-7084) has created a do-it-yourself kit for creating personal monogram stamps. Each kit includes two sizes of interlocking/interchangeable letters and four border designs. Customers can create a three-letter monogram, a three-letter monogram with border, a one-letter monogram with border and many more combinations. The stamper comes with one reversible ink pad; one side has black ink, while the other side is dry so users can add their own color or embossing ink.

Save Your Design For Later

Arccivo™ of Charlotte, North Carolina (704/369-7325) has created a new layout and design tool of the same name as the company. Arccivo allows users to work on an unfinished layout whenever they please and walk away without worrying about ruining the incomplete design. The patent-pending Arccivo is a portfolio-shaped case that opens like a book and creates two work surfaces for crafting layouts. Removable magnetic sheets cover and protect unfinished pages, locking loose paper, photos and embellishments in place. Zipping the Arccivo shut protects the layout and allows users to transport the in-progress pages safely and securely. Arccivo was produced in conjunction with a new Public Broadcasting System reality show, Everyday Edisons®, featuring inventors and the product development process. Pam Hester, Deborah Mance and Mary LaValley, three working mothers from North Carolina, presented their scrapbooking invention at an Everyday Edisons casting call and were selected as one of the 14 Season-1 finalists.

Spring Embellishments

Making Memories of Centerville, Utah (801/294-0430) has released its Spring/Easter collection, with a palette picked fresh from the garden—grassy greens, floral pinks, robin's egg blues and lemony yellows. This program includes themed offerings in Scalloped Edge Leather Albums, Embellishment Paper, Ephemera Stickers and Velvet Sayings, Shimmer Alphabet Stickers, Shimmer Flower Stickers, Chipboard Shapes, Ribbon Spools, Grommet Shapes, Foam Stamps and Scrapbook Colors Paints, and more.

The company has also expanded its embellishments collection. Some highlights from its latest premiere include Sweets (bright, epoxy-topped charms shaped like hearts, flowers and traditional tags that are also double-sided); Jumbo Brads (the company's most popular brads, topped off with Page Pebbles and super-sized, after which they can be accented with Making Memories flowers); Shimmer Jigsaw (chipboard jigsaw shapes accented with glitter); Clear Creations (4" x 6" clear overlays outfitted with quotes, thoughts, expressions or scrolling décor to accent photos); and Rub-On Books (collections of definitions, thoughts, sayings and alphabets in rub-on format packaged in 17-page books). To complement its new embellishments, Making Memories has released Show & Tell, a new book offering creative projects that give classic embellishments new purpose. Each of the book's nine chapters features a range of traditional embellishments and pairs them with projects and how-tos that put a new twist on their purpose—for example, glitter used for a sheer frame or rub-ons over flowers.

State Stamps and Travel Designs

Putting on the Ritz of Issaquah, Washington (425/392-3358) is now in its third year of business, still adding more designs and retiring a few images. Its focus was originally on Art Deco and Art Nouveau images, but it has now migrated to travel and storytelling. New designs in the company's sixth and latest catalog include all 50 states, tropical designs, stained-glass window pattern stamps and many more cars. Jeri L. Grazier, owner of Putting on the Ritz, encourages customers to tell her about their favorite city or travel destinations so she can work on new designs.

Mini Note Book with Stamps

Magenta of Sainte-Julie, Quebec, Canada (450/922-5253) has introduced a Mini Note Book kit, which includes the materials for making three mini note books: six square cardboard tiles, three cardboard spines, three note pads, one long cardboard guide, one short cardboard guide and full instructions with steps. Designed for use with the Mini Note Book kit are Special Projects stamps, which feature four beautiful designs appropriately sized to decorate the entire cover of the mini note books. The company has also greatly expanded its collection of clear stamps and decorative scrapbooking papers.

Ampersand Art Supply of Austin, Texas (800/822-1939), manufacturer of the Stampbord stamping surface, has created Stampbord Blocks. With an edge that is ready to decorate and hang, these blocks have a 1.5"-deep plywood frame that runs along the back edge of the Stampbord and flush with the sides. Define your block edges with paint, stain, collage, small Stampbords, embellishments and more! They are available in 6" x 6", 8" x 8", 12" x 12" and 6" x 12" sizes. Blocks are easy to hang.

The Scraparatus Starter Set includes the tool, two hole-punch tips, two eyelet splitter tips, two eyelet rounder tips, two dies and one die stomper. Additional Scraparatus Die Sets will be available in two alphabets and two shape sets. The alphabet die sets include Linkin' Letters, an uppercase font with 39 dies that can be connected with eyelets to look like a miniature party banner, and Giddy Alphabet, a lowercase casual font with 26 dies. Pinky Dinky Dies are shape die sets and include Sassy Shapes and Tags Etc., with five dies each.

The new Scrap-n-Stash™ Apron is especially designed to stash the new Scraparatus Starter Set. This apron helps keep tools and supplies organized by stashing them in handy pockets. It can be filled with everything from markers and scissors to cell phones and snacks. Scrapbookers can grab what they need when they need it. Another new storage item from Karen Foster Design is the Hook Nook™ pegboard storage system. Four clear, interlocking 12" x 12" pegboards simply hang on the wall with included hardware. Glue Dots International of New Berlin, Wisconsin (888/688-7131) has introduced Removable Glue Dots®, which adhere as long as necessary and remove without damaging surfaces. Useful for decorating or applying a gift card to a handmade greeting card. One roll includes 200 dots.

The company is also offering a tool for retailers: Glue Dots Clip Strips. These are designed to hold sheeted Glue Dots in a vertical strip for more versatile placement in stores—in the checkout aisle, for example, to encourage impulse sales.

Kimono and Engraving Stamps

Kodomo of Millbrae, California (650/685-1828) has introduced Bingata stamp sets. The Bingata is a traditional kimono pattern from Okinawa. With their colorful stenciled patterns, these kimonos are gorgeous and usually very expensive. These four new stamp sets incorporate designs from Bingata kimonos. The company is also offering three Engraving Flower sets. These stamps are created in the style of a wood engraving and feature floral and other botanical designs. Also new are two eight-stamp sets: one of cheerful Japanese motifs and another of the Seven Gods of Happiness.
